Sandy Pflueger is an American equestrian who has been competing in the sport since the 1970s. She is a three-time Olympian, having competed in the 1984, 1988, and 1992 Summer Olympics. She has also won numerous medals at the Pan American Games, World Equestrian Games, and other international competitions. Pflueger was born in Hawaii and began riding horses at the age of five. She attended the University of Hawaii and graduated with a degree in business administration. She then moved to California to pursue her equestrian career. Pflueger has won numerous medals in her career, including a bronze medal in the team eventing at the 1984 Summer Olympics, a silver medal in the individual eventing at the 1988 Summer Olympics, and a bronze medal in the team eventing at the 1992 Summer Olympics. She has also won multiple medals at the Pan American Games, World Equestrian Games, and other international competitions. Pflueger is currently the head coach of the United States Equestrian Team. Pflueger was the co-owner of Hawaii's Ka Loko Dam, which collapsed after heavy rain on 14 March 2006, killing seven people. Unlicensed grading operations had been carried out, with the knowledge of the local authorities, who failed to enforce a stop-work order.
She is the daughter of Nancy and James Pflueger, a Kauai landowner, auto dealer, philanthropist and self-made millionaire. On 1 February 1997, Sandy Pflueger married British Olympian and coach of the American Eventing team, Captain Mark Phillips, whose first wife was Princess Anne, the daughter of Queen Elizabeth II.
