Gary Wright is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He is best known for his 1976 hit single "Dream Weaver" and for his role as a founding member of the band Spooky Tooth. He has released several solo albums, including The Dream Weaver (1975), Headin' Home (1980), and Touch and Gone (1988). Wright was born in Cresskill, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby Dumont. He began playing the piano at the age of five and later learned to play the guitar. He attended the University of Miami, where he studied music and composition. In 1967, Wright joined the band Spooky Tooth, which released several albums and toured extensively. He left the band in 1974 to pursue a solo career. His first solo album, The Dream Weaver, was released in 1975 and featured the hit single "Dream Weaver". The song reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified gold. In 1973, Spooky Tooth re-united but broke up again in 1974. Wright resumed his solo career, this time with more success.

Gary Wright was born in Creskill, New Jersey on April 26, 1943. He began his career in show business debuting on the Captain Video show in New York at the age of seven. He also made a living appearing in radio and television commercials before appearing in the play Fanny. It was also at this time that he began taking piano and organ lessons, this led to him joining several bands while he was in high school. Upon graduation he went to college to study psychology, first in New York, then in Berlin. While in Europe, he met Englishman Mike Harrison, which led to the formation of the progressive/hard rock band Spooky Tooth.
